Slow computers are frustrating…
But what’s even more frustrating is when a computer still works perfectly well, but its operating system can no longer be updated.
Eventually, applications stop supporting it too – and suddenly a perfectly usable computer seems destined for replacement.
Don’t give up on it just yet.
There may be an easy way to add several more useful years to its life.
Linux to the rescue
Linux is a free, open-source alternative to operating systems such as Windows and macOS. There are many different Linux distributions, designed for different kinds of users and computers.
For older computers, one of my favourites is Zorin OS.
Zorin OS
Developed in Ireland, Zorin OS offers a familiar desktop environment and access to the software most people need for everyday use: web browsing, email, office applications, music, messaging and much more.
The Core edition is free, and its relatively modest hardware requirements make it suitable for many computers that are no longer supported by current versions of Windows.
Better yet, you can try Zorin OS from a USB stick without installing it or changing anything on your computer. That makes it easy to check whether your hardware works well with it first.
My offer
Want to see whether Zorin OS can give your old computer a new lease of life?
There are two ways we can give it a try:
- We arrange a meeting and try it directly on your computer.
- If you’re comfortable installing operating systems yourself but need some help, I can support you remotely.
Get in touch if you’re curious.
