Slow computers are frustrating…
But what’s even more frustrating is when the computer actually still works okay, but the operating system (OS) can’t be updated any more.
That’s when applications start throwing the “Sorry, but your system is too old, we don’t provide updates any more. Buy a new computer.” message at you.
Don’t just blindly believe that.
There is an easy way to at least try to add a couple more years or more to your computer’s lifetime!
Linux OS to the rescue
Maybe you’ve heard about Linux before. Maybe not.
It’s essentially a free open source operating system that everyone can download, modify and distribute under a certain license.
It was birthed in 1991, and meanwhile there are many different distributions out there, each of them catering specific needs.
My mission is to make old computers usable again, so I was looking for a lightweight version that still provides the features that most people require.
And guess what, I found one!
Zorin OS (EST 2008)
Developed in Ireland, Zorin OS ticks all the boxes.
The user interface feels familiar, and it has access to all the software one needs in daily life (internet browser, email client, office alternative, Spotify, Telegram, you name it).
They have a free and light version that should run on computers as old as 15 years.
If you’re into IT, I’m sure you will figure out how to install it. But if not:
My offer
Let’s install Zorin OS on your computer and give it a go!
There’s two options to accomplish that:
- We arrange a meeting and you bring me your old computer.
- If you’re comfortable installing systems but you need help, I can offer to support you remotely.
In any case, get in touch if you’re curious.
Details about out my conditions.
